Help! Fashion Purses Don’t Match
Have you ever wondered, “Should my purse match my shoes?” Well, this article is going to address this question. It comes down to the question, “Why?” Why should handbags match purses? Just because they are the same color isn’t reason enough in my book. There is a rainbow of color out there; some colors go quite well together, and others are just not meant to be in close proximity. Just look at the color wheel and you can see some interesting combinations. Personally, I think the reason we were brought up with the idea of fashion purses have to match the dress shoes is because… our mothers and grandmothers and beyond did not understand color and also, there were less choices available long ago. Of course, same or similar colors do work well together, but nowadays there are so many fashionable choices out on the market that it seems a shame to limit ourselves to accessorizing with just one color.
In order to understand the departure from the tone on tone tradition of accessorizing you need to understand a little bit about color. When we put neutral colors near us, they tend to disappear, or at least, do not stand out. Neutral colors such as beige, black, brown, and white don’t compete with the other more vibrant colors we may wear. This allows us to choose fashion purses that are full of color and interesting patterns as well as images. If our shoes matched these colorful bags, they would call attention to your feet, and draw the eye away from the focus of the handbag. On the same wavelength of thought, a neutral purse will not compete with a pair of fabulous colorful shoes. Sometimes you may want to be wearing a neutral outfit, such as the classic beige suite, or the little black dress. These outfits become a backdrop, or canvas for the woman to showcase all of her accessories, such as jewelry, purse, and shoes, or simply the ones she chooses to highlight.
Finally, the old rules of purse and shoes matching tended to make the woman look a little bland. By adding a punch of color somewhere on her frame, she is able to highlight what she chooses, and make a statement that is more about her personality than about the conventions of old style fashion rules dictate.
If you need a little help choosing which fashion purses to accessorize with, just consult a color wheel and use an imaginary triangle to help pick colors that will work well together.
